  • P.R. Vasudeva Rao became the Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) succeeding S.C Chetal, on 31 January 2013.
  • India dropped nine places to 140th rank in the list of 179 countries in the latest World Press Freedom Index 2013
  • Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of the Indian cricket team was appointed as the vice-president of India Cements on 1 February 2013.
  • The Union Government of India gave the Maharatna status to two PSUs- BHEL and GAIL on 1 February 2013.
  • The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on 3 Feb 2013 agreed to the Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance, 2013 for sharpening the laws against sexual assault.
  • The Enforcement Directorate (ED) slapped the IPL team Rajasthan Royals with a penalty notice of around 100 crore Rupees for violating the Forex laws.
  • ICICI Bank, the largest private sector bank of India partnered with Aircel to announce the launch of their mobile banking service called Mobile Money.

  • Supreme Court of India in its decision asked SEBI to freeze the accounts of the two companies of Sahara group.
  • Parliament Attack Convict, Afzal Guru was hanged on 9 Feb 2013 at Tihar Jail after his mercy petition was cancelled by the President of India.
  • Competition Commission of India on 8 Feb 2013 slapped a penalty of 52.24 crore rupees over BCCI and gave its 90 days to pay the same.
  • Finance Minister P Chidambaram on 9 February 2013 launched the much-awaited Rajiv Gandhi Equity Savings Scheme in Mumbai.
